HOW IS CELIAC DISEASE TREATED?

INFOPARENTS.COM: there is no mspecific medication for Celiac disease today. The only treatment for Celiac disease ia a strict gluten-free diet for life.

Once the diagnosis is made, parents/pateints should be refferde to a dietician with expertise in Celaic disease for an assesmsnet education and follow up, in addition to regular medical visits. Note that some medications may contain gluten and so you should discuss this with your phramacist.

What about Oats?

Small amounts of oats when pure and uncontaminated have been proven safe for persons with Celiac disease.

Long Term

Even after symptoms disappear following a strict gluten-free diet, medical and dietary follow-up are still necessary to monitor, prevent and/or treat any associated nutritional deficicencies such as anemia, osteoporosis and nutritional deficiencies.
